Private hospital and homes

Emergency Maintenance Allowance can be paid at the full rate regardless of the period of hospitalisation when a client is:

  • admitted to a private home that provides residential care disability services

If the client receives Extra Help, this will need to be reviewed to see if their costs are continuing.

For more information see:

Transfer from home to hospital

If a client is a resident of a home and has been transferred to a hospital, their rate of payment can be reduced when they have been in hospital for 13 weeks.

Continue payment to the home unless the client requests otherwise. Increase the client's benefit to the appropriate full rate, if it has been reduced, from the day the client is transferred back to the home.
