Client does not need to complete the reapplication process
Clients do not need to complete the reapplication process if, at any the time from the date their ‘initial notice to reapply’ letter is sent, until their expiry date, they are:
- in hospital care, or
- in residential disability care or rest home care, or
- living in or visiting a region affected by an emergency or adverse event and they are unable to reasonably leave the area
Clients in one of these specific circumstances will have their expiry date automatically cleared and reset to the end of the next 26 week period.
The client and their partner (if any included in their Jobseeker Support) do not need to complete a reapplication until the next expiry date, if they still need Jobseeker Support.
Partner not required to complete reapplication
If only the partner is in one of the specific circumstances listed above, they do not need to complete any part of the reapplication process.
The client must still complete their reapplication before their expiry date, as the expiry date will not be cleared in this situation.
Client in hospital
If MSD is aware a client is in hospital when the 'initial notice to reapply' letter is due to be sent, the letter will not be sent. If the client is in hospital at any time during their notice period, they do not need to complete the reapplication process.
MSD will generally review the client’s Jobseeker Support and any Extra Help they get when the client is discharged from hospital.
For more information see:
Client in residential disability care or rest home care
If MSD is aware a client is in residential disability care or rest home care when the 'initial notice to reapply' is due to be sent, the letter will not be sent.
If the client is in residential disability care or rest home care at any time during their notice period they do not need to complete the reapplication process.
This includes but is not limited to clients who are getting Residential Care Subsidy or Residential Support Subsidy.
For more information see:
Emergency or adverse events
During an emergency or adverse event it may be unreasonable to expect clients to complete the reapplication process.
This is limited to clients who, at any point during the notice period are:
- living in or visiting a region affected by an emergency or adverse event, and
- they are unable to reasonably leave the area.
An area affected by an emergency or adverse event means that:
- a local state of emergency or national emergency is in force in the area (e.g. because of a natural disaster such as a flood or earthquake), or
- an epidemic notice is in force in the area (i.e. because of an outbreak of a quarantinable disease that is affecting or may affect the area), or
- other exceptional circumstances are affecting the area
As an emergency or adverse event affects a whole area or region, or is nationwide, it is likely that multiple clients will be affected by the event.
Generally, in an emergency or adverse event, MSD will be able to determine which clients have been affected as a result of the emergency or adverse event.
