Reapplication process at 26 weeks
Jobseeker Support is a temporary work-focused benefit paid for up to 26 weeks while a client looks for work, is in training for work, or is unable to work or is working reduced hours due to a health condition, injury or disability.
To continue getting Jobseeker Support, a client and their included partner (if any) must complete the 26 week reapplication process before their expiry date. The 26 week reapplication process allows MSD to determine if they still qualify.
To complete the 26 week reapplication process a client and their included partner (if any) must complete the following parts of the reapplication before their expiry date:
- an eligibility check and
- an appropriate employment engagement and
- agree to their obligations and confirm their intention to reapply for Jobseeker Support
Note clients getting Emergency Benefit equivalent to Jobseeker Support are not required to complete the 26 week reapplication process.
Exceptions
There are some situations where a client and their partner (if any) are not required to complete the reapplication process.
Parental Assistance Test from 2 November 2026
On 2 November 2026 the Parental Assistance Test was introduced, which means some young people must meet the test to qualify for Jobseeker Support. The transitional arrangements mean most clients already getting Jobseeker Support will not be assessed for the Parental Assistance Test until their first 26 week reapplication after 2 November 2026.
