Notice to reapply

Clients getting a current Jobseeker Support are automatically sent an 'initial notice to reapply' letter 25 working days before the expiry date of their benefit advising the client they need to complete the reapplication process.

The notice period allows sufficient time for clients to complete the reapplication process.

26 weeks reapplication initial notice to reapply

The initial notice to reapply letter advises the client (and any partner included in their benefit):

  • that Jobseeker Support is a temporary benefit paid for up to 26 weeks while they prepare for or look for work, and
  • that if they still need Jobseeker Support, they must complete the 26 week reapplication process before their expiry date, and
  • what they need to do to complete the 26 week reapplication process.

There are no review rights in these letters because it is a requirement for clients to complete the 26 week reapplication process.

Clients getting Jobseeker Support before 1 July 2025

Some clients already getting Jobseeker Support before 1 July 2025 must complete a 52 week reapplication before their benefit expiry date if they still need it. This is a transitional arrangement.

This applies to the following clients only:

These clients will be sent the 'initial notice to reapply' letter 25 working days before their expiry date. The letter advises what they need to do to complete their reapplication, in line with the 52 week reapplication requirements.

52 week reapplication initial notice to reapply

The 'initial notice to reapply' letter advises the client (and any partner included in their benefit) that:

  • their upcoming expiry date is 52 weeks after their benefit was last granted, and
  • if they still need Jobseeker Support, they must complete the 52 week reapplication process before their expiry date, and
  • in order to reapply, they will need to attend an appointment with MSD, and
  • the client and their partner (if any) will need to provide any supporting evidence to determine they are still eligible, and
  • the client and their partner (if any) will need to complete the reapplication and Comprehensive Work Assessment online before they attend their appointment, and
  • their Disability Allowance may also be reviewed (if getting it).

There are no review rights in these letters because it is a requirement for clients to complete the 52 week reapplication process.

For more information see:

Reminder to reapply

If a client has not completed the reapplication process a reminder letter will be sent 10 working days before the expiry date.

Jobseeker Support clients getting Disability Allowance

Clients getting Jobseeker Support must complete the reapplication process to continue getting their benefit. These clients will have a Mandatory Review for Disability Allowance when they:

  • are completing the reapplication process for the benefit and
  • their disability costs have not been reviewed in the last 44 weeks

If a client’s disability costs have been reviewed in the last 44 weeks, there will be no Mandatory Review of Disability Allowance.

Note the reapplication process is not impacted if a client does not complete their Mandatory Review for Disability Allowance.

Legislation

For the purposes of the reapplication process the notice period starts 20 working days before the expiry date and ends the day before the expiry date.
