Expiry date
The expiry date for Jobseeker Support is:
- 26 weeks from the date that the client's Jobseeker Support commenced, or last commenced. This is when the client:
- applies for and is granted Jobseeker Support, or
- completes their reapplication on time and their Jobseeker Support is regranted, or
- is transferred to Jobseeker Support from any other main benefit.
Note if a client's expiry date falls in the week immediately before or including 26 December, their benefit will continue to be paid until the first Monday following 2 January. Their expiry date does not change.
For more information see:
Exception
The expiry date for clients who automatically transfer from Sole Parent Support to Jobseeker Support when their youngest dependent child turns 14 years old is:
- 52 weeks from the date the Sole Parent Support last commenced (meaning the Sole Parent Support expiry date is retained), or
- 26 weeks from the Jobseeker Support commencement date
whichever is earlier.
When a client completes their reapplication and is regranted Jobseeker Support, their next expiry date is 26 weeks from the new commencement date.
For more information see:
Clients who were getting Jobseeker Support before 1 July 2025
Some clients who were getting Jobseeker Support before 1 July 2025 and are still getting their benefit on 1 July 2025 will retain their current 52 week expiry date. This is a transitional arrangement.
This applies to the following clients only:
- clients whose Jobseeker Support commenced (or last commenced) before 4 February 2025, or
- sole parent or grandparented clients whose Jobseeker Support commenced (or last commenced) before 1 July 2025, or
- clients who have an 'in-flight' 52 week reapplication on 1 July 2025.
When these clients complete their reapplication process before their final 52 week expiry date and their Jobseeker Support is regranted, they move to the 26 week expiry and reapplication cycle.
Note clients whose Jobseeker Support commenced (or last commenced) after 3 February 2025 but before 1 July 2025, had their expiry date adjusted to be 26 weeks from their last commencement date if they were still getting their benefit on 1 July 2025.
For more information see:
Expiry date reset
The expiry date is not reset by any periods of temporary suspension or expiries. The expiry date is only affected if a client:
- has their Jobseeker Support cancelled for any reason, or
- transfers to another benefit type that is not Jobseeker Support and then transfers back to Jobseeker Support, or
- was a partner and has separated from a primary Jobseeker Support client, and has been granted Jobseeker Support in their own right. The primary client's expiry date remains the same.
