Transfer from Sole Parent Support when youngest child turns 14 years old
The expiry date for clients who automatically transfer from Sole Parent Support to Jobseeker Support when their youngest dependent child turns 14 years old is either:
- 52 weeks from the date the Sole Parent Support last commenced (meaning the Sole Parent Support expiry date is retained), or
- 26 weeks from the Jobseeker Support commencement date
whichever is earlier.
This means clients are never on Jobseeker Support for more than 26 weeks before their benefit expires.
Example 1 - Sole Parent Support expiry date is retained
Cass's Sole Parent Support commenced on 5 March 2027, with his 13 year old dependent child included in his benefit. His Sole Parent Support expiry date is 5 March 2028, which is 52 weeks from his commencement date.
On 6 October 2027 Cass automatically transfers to Jobseeker Support because his youngest dependent child turned 14 years old.
In this situation, Cass's Jobseeker Support expiry date remains 5 March 2028, which is 52 weeks from the date his Sole Parent Support commenced. This is because the original Sole Parent Support expiry date is within 26 weeks of the date his Jobseeker Support commenced.
Cass completes the 26 week reapplication process before his expiry date. He continues to qualify for and is regranted Jobseeker Support from 5 March 2028. Cass's next expiry date is 3 September 2028, which is 26 weeks from the new commencement date.
Example 2 - Expiry date is 26 weeks from Jobseeker Support commencement date
Ani's Sole Parent Support commenced on 20 September 2025, with their 13 and 15 year old dependent children included in their benefit. Their Sole Parent Support expiry date is 20 September 2026.
On 15 November 2025 Ani automatically transfers to Jobseeker Support because their youngest dependent child turned 14 years old.
In this situation, the expiry date of Ani's Jobseeker Support will be 16 May 2026, which is 26 weeks from the date their Jobseeker Support commenced. This is because 16 May 2026 is earlier than their original Sole Parent Support expiry date, which was 20 September 2026.
Ani completes the 26 week reapplication process before their expiry date. They continue to qualify for Jobseeker Support and it is regranted from 16 May 2026. Their benefit will continue to expire every 26 weeks.
