Clients moving to a limited employment location
If a client is thinking of moving to a limited employment location (or from one limited employment location to another), you must tell them that moving to a limited employment location means they may not be able to meet their work obligations, including to be available for, and take reasonable steps to obtain, suitable employment in that location. This is because of a lack of employment opportunities in that area.
To meet the work obligations, clients moving to a limited employment location must demonstrate that they have access to reliable transport and are willing, and realistically able, to commute to a nearby town or centre where employment is available.
Continued residence in a limited employment location without meeting this requirement means they will fail the work obligations.
Note we do not want clients to put themselves in a situation where they will fail the work obligations. You need to work with all clients planning to move to a limited employment location, as appropriate, to explore:
- why they want to move
- whether and how the need to move could be alleviated without their having to move to a limited employment location
- how they plan to meet their work obligations should they move to a limited employment location
