Payments while on Money Management
Clients on Money Management will be paid the following to their nominated bank account:
- 50% of their main benefit rate payable
- 100% of any Working for Families tax credits or supplementary assistance
Any redirections, debt repayments, or offsets will continue to be deducted from the amount that is paid into their bank account. This must be considered before applying Money Management as this amount may be higher than the amount of benefit they will get.
If a client’s main benefit cannot be divided evenly by 2, the higher amount will be paid to their bank account. This means a client may receive 1 cent more in their bank account than on their payment card.
Where a payment card can be used
The payment card is limited to approved suppliers who sell essential items specifically for:
- food
- transport
- healthcare related items and/or
- education related items.
Money left on payment card when Money Management ends
A client may have money left on their payment card when Money Management ends. Clients are expected to use this balance as it can continue to be used to buy essential items.
The balance can be transferred to a client's bank account if they ask.
Example
Tayla has been on Money Management for 3 weeks. In her 4th week, she finds full-time employment and cancels her benefit.
She has $220 remaining on her payment card. Tayla requests that this money be transferred to her bank account so that she can use it on work-related expenses.
MSD transfers the payment directly to her bank account.
