Students
Full-time students cannot receive the Jobseeker Support. If MSD is unsure whether a student is full-time or not, they can ask the student to provide verification from their education provider.
Client has been recently studying
Some students have a financial incentive to apply for Jobseeker Support during the break between the academic years of a programme of study e.g. the summer vacation. This is usually because they do not meet the hardship criteria for Jobseeker Support Student Hardship.
A client who has been studying can only get Jobseeker Support when they:
- completely withdraw from a course of study during the academic year or after an academic year has finished
- have completed their studies and
- do not intend resuming their studies in the next academic year
The client should be made aware that if they intend to undertake further study they cannot get Jobseeker Support, and it is an offence to misrepresent their intentions.
Clients who have recently finished (within the last 3 months) a course of full-time study, must provide contact details for their parents.
This information is needed in all situations where the client is under the age of 25 years. MSD would only contact the parents where there is doubt about the student's intentions.
