Up to date core Well Child/Tamariki Ora checks
A client and their partner (if any) receiving Jobseeker Support must take all reasonable steps to:
- register their child or children with a Well Child/Tamariki Ora provider and
- keep up-to-date with the child's core Well Child/Tamariki Ora checks
Note a client is only required to ensure their child completes core Well Child/Tamariki Ora checks to meet this obligation from the time they begin to receive a benefit. For example, a client who starts receiving a benefit when their child is between 3 and 4 months old cannot be failed for not having completed the core Well Child/Tamariki Ora checks the child should have had at ages 4 to 6 weeks.
Age of child
There are 8 core Well Child/Tamariki Ora checks that apply to children aged from 4 weeks to 5 years. There are also 3 checks that occur shortly after birth. The obligation only applies for the 8 core checks that occur from around 4 months through to 5 years of age.

Taking all reasonable steps

For more information on considering whether a client is taking all reasonable steps to meet their social obligations, see:
Verification
Most parents will already have their child or children registered and up to date with their core Well Child/Tamariki Ora checks and in most cases you should take the client's word that they are meeting this social obligation.
However, if you have information that indicates the client is not taking all reasonable steps to meet their social obligations you may ask for proof that the checks have been completed, for example by asking to see their Well Child/Tamariki Ora Health Book.
The Well Child/Tamariki Ora Health Book is issued to parents when their child is born and is sufficient evidence of the child's attendance. The Health Book has helpful advice and information about what is happening at different stages in the child's development and has places to record all the Well Child/Tamariki Ora checks.
