Upskilling
Upskilling is a non-financial sanction that can be imposed on a client or their partner instead of a Grade 1 financial sanction. It is intended to help clients build work-related skills and confidence.
Each week for 4 weeks, a client must:
- regularly attend and participate in at least one employment-related training or course for at least 5 hours and
- report to MSD on the employment-related training or courses they have participated in
At the end of the 4-week period, a client must provide MSD with evidence of their employment related training or courses. MSD must be satisfied the evidence provided is sufficient.
Once a client completes 4 weeks of Upskilling, they are considered to have recomplied with their obligations and do not need to complete any other recompliance activities.
Note some employment-related training or courses may be longer than 4 weeks. Clients should be made aware that, if they satisfactorily attend and participate in the training or course, they will be considered to have recomplied after 4 weeks even if the course lasts longer than this.
