Youth activity obligations
A young partner is subject to youth activity obligations instead of work or work preparation obligations if they are:
- aged 16 or 17 years old without dependent children or
- aged 16 to 19 years old with a dependent child and
- married, in a civil union, or de facto relationship with a person getting Jobseeker Support
Note young partners may qualify for an exemption from some or all obligations if it is unreasonable to expect them to meet their obligations for a specified period.
Aged 16 or 17 in a de facto relationship
A 16 or 17 year old can only be treated as in a de facto relationship if they have an order from a Family Court Judge giving consent for the de facto relationship. This applies even when the couple has a dependent child.
