Obligation to advise of departure from New Zealand

All caregivers getting Orphan's Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit must tell MSD before they leave New Zealand.

If a caregiver does not tell MSD before they and/or the child (that Orphan's Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit is paid for) go overseas, their benefit payments will stop from the day after they leave New Zealand.

Does not advise of departure

MSD has an Approved Information Sharing Agreement with New Zealand Customs Service that identifies clients who have left New Zealand if they are getting a benefit.

MSD uses this information to stop a caregiver's Orphan's Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit if they have not advised of their or the child's intended departure before leaving New Zealand.
