Client has recently changed locations

Most clients who have recently changed locations will be able to provide details of a nominated person to verify their relationship status.

However, some clients will be unable to provide the details of a nominated person who has known them for at least 2 years prior to their application, for example because the client has recently returned to New Zealand.

Note it is not necessary for the client and the nominated person to live in the same city or town. A client who has recently moved may still be able to provide the details of a nominated person in the city or town from which they have moved or elsewhere in New Zealand.

In this case, where you have asked the client to get the nominated person to complete a Relationship Status Verification form, you should discuss with the client any issues there might be with getting the form returned in a reasonable time.

If the client is still unable to name a nominated person, Work and Income will consider their application for Sole Parent Support without the details of a nominated person.
