Supported Living Payment : Contents

Client no longer entitled (health condition, injury or disability)

Generally, when a client no longer qualifies for Supported Living Payment on the ground of a health condition, injury or disability, their benefit can continue for 28 days.

Note the decision to decline or cancel Supported Living Payment on medical grounds can be appealed to the Medical Appeals Board.

Clients should be invited to apply for an alternative benefit. If the client wants to apply for Jobseeker Support on the ground of health condition, injury or disability, the client's application for Supported Living Payment should be treated as an application for Jobseeker Support.

Any alternative benefit can be granted after the 28-day extension to Supported Living Payment on the ground of a health condition, injury or disability has expired (that is, grant from the 29th day).

Note during the 28-day continuation of payment, if the client has other changes of circumstances, such as a change in income, the rate of main benefit and extra help will need to be reassessed accordingly.

Mandatory reviews

Generally, clients getting Supported Living Payment must respond to the Mandatory Review before their review date or their payments will suspend.

However, when the Mandatory Review is only for Supported Living Payment on the ground of a health condition, injury or disability and the benefit will stop at the end of the 28-day continuation period, and the review is due, an exemption will apply.

The client must contact MSD before their review date to discuss their situation if they need an exemption.

Child turns 18

Generally, clients getting Supported Living Payment must respond to their notice before the child's 18th birthday or the child will be excluded from their payments.

However, when the client no longer qualifies for Supported Living Payment on the ground of a health condition, injury or disability and the benefit will stop at the end of the 28-day continuation period, the client is not required to respond to the notice when a child turns 18 and the child will not be excluded during the continuation of payment period.
