Examples - determining when a partner became non-compliant

Example 1

Adrian failed a work obligation and MSD imposed Community Work Experience as a non-financial sanction. He contacts MSD at the end of the search period and says he didn't find a position. When MSD asks about what steps he took to find one, Adrian says he contacted a few places in the first week but had no luck, so he gave up trying.

MSD is satisfied that Adrian was complying with the requirements of the search period in week one, but he was no longer compliant in week 2. MSD determines non-compliance from day one of week 2, Thursday 19 June 2025. Adrian's payments are stopped from this date, and he is given a different recompliance activity to complete.

Example 2

Rick had Community Work Experience imposed and found a suitable position working with an environmental organisation cleaning up local rivers.

At the end of his position period, Rick does not provide verification or make contact with MSD. MSD suspends his benefit from the end of his position period.

Rick contacts MSD and asks why his benefit stopped. He is unable to provide any verification of completing his Community Work Experience. MSD also received an email from the organisation advising that Rick had stopped attending.

Because they are unable to confirm exactly when Rick became non-compliant, MSD considers him non-compliant from the beginning of the position period. Because he was not entitled to receive his benefit payments from the beginning of the position period, this results in a debt being established.

MSD then assigns a recompliance activity for Rick to complete to get his payments resumed.
