People likely to be severely disabled

Not all disabled clients would be considered severely disabled. However there are some groups where it is easily identified that extra personal effort is required for them to participate in their community.

The table below outlines situations where your client would be considered to be severely disabled and may qualify for the income exemption for severe disablement.

Situation

Example

Your client is living in an environment where they need a high level of care and supervision to carry out the daily routines of life.

Your client may be in a residential care facility on a long term basis where a Residential Support Subsidy or Residential Care Subsidy is being paid because they require a high level of care and supervision.

Your client might be living in a community residential service or supported independent living, or Ministry of Health contracted board arrangement with IHC because they require a high level of care and supervision.
