Social obligations recompliance (13 week non-entitlement period)
If a client or partner fails their obligations for a third time, their benefit is reduced or cancelled. For the client or partner to increase their benefit they must undertake a six week recompliance activity or programme of activities and reapply for a benefit.
If the third obligation failure is a social obligation failure, the standard six week recompliance activities may not be appropriate as clients receiving Supported Living Payment and some partners do not have work obligations and cannot work or be in training for a period of 6 weeks.
In this situation, a programme of short-term approved activities may be more appropriate for the client.
Example 1
Short term approved activities to consider for a partner with part-time work obligations and social obligations, where the third failure was a social obligations failure.
Week 1 | Take reasonable steps to talk to providers of an appropriate recognised early childhood education programme |
Week 2 | Take reasonable steps to enrol their child in a recognised early childhood education programme |
Week 3 | CV seminar |
Week 4 | Attend presentation seminar approved by Work and Income |
Week 5 | Attend a local parenting programme that provides support for families |
Week 6 | Meet with case manager to talk about what reasonable steps have been taken to enrol the child in a recognised early childhood education programme and discuss how the other activities went |
Note a programme of suitable activities for a client with part-time work obligations should be for no more than 15 hours each week.
