Clients suspended from a housing provider

Housing providers may suspend tenants who have breached their tenancy agreement. This means that the social housing provider is not willing to accept the client as a tenant.

Clients who are suspended by a housing provider can still request an eligibility assessment to determine if they have a housing need. You should encourage the client to seek a waiver of the suspension from the housing provider if this is available, as this will increase the client's opportunity for a referral to suitable housing.

Social housing providers are housing providers, which include Housing New Zealand and community housing providers.

Community housing providers are approved, registered and regulated by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

A social housing provider can provide properties for tenants who are eligible for social housing and for subsided rent through Income Related Rent.
