Households on the register

Fast-track will be applied to households already on the social housing register when a caregiver provides a written statement from Oranga Tamariki, an Iwi social service, a cultural social service, or a child and family support service confirming that:

• the household's current accommodation is preventing a specified child or young person in custody under the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 or in an approved permanent care arrangement from coming into their care and
• the care arrangement for placement of the child or young person with the household is, or is intended to be, long term (12 months or longer) or permanent

When there is a change in the circumstances of a child or young person in a household on the social housing register that may affect whether the household is fast-tracked, the criteria for fast-track will also be checked to determine if the change means the fast-track should now be applied. These changes include:

• child inclusion
• granting Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit
