Annual review of Income Related Rent
The annual review process ensures that a review of the calculated rate of Income Related Rent is completed every year, and that correct information is held about applicable people.
The annual review is a review of the calculated rate of Income Related Rent. It is not a review of the client's eligibility for social housing.
Clients must complete the annual review process within the 5-week period before the next scheduled review date. If a client does not do this, their Income Related Rent may increase.
All clients in social housing complete an annual review
MSD may review a person's Income Related Rent at any time and this is done at least annually. The annual review is completed by all applicable people, including clients paying rent at the market rent rate, to prevent:
- an incorrect rate of Income Related Rent being calculated
- a client incorrectly having a rate of Income Related Rent calculated when they should be paying rent at the market rent rate and / or
- housing providers charging rent at the market rent rate to clients who are eligible for a lower rate of Income Related Rent
A client can choose not to participate in the annual review process and decide not to have their rate of Income Related Rent calculated.
