Client does not apply for Income Related Rent

A client can choose not to apply for an Income Related Rent. This is confirmed at the time they are placed into a property.

You should discuss with the client their reasons why they do not want to get an Income Related Rent.

When a client advises that they do not want to get an Income Related Rent, they may continue to be eligible for social housing and you must advise:

• Kāinga Ora that the rent for the property is the market rent or
• community housing providers that they may set the rent for the property themselves but it must not be greater than the market rent
