Types of income
Income that is used to calculate the rate of Income Related Rent is known as 'assessable income'.
Assessable income is the estimate of a client's net weekly income (i.e. after tax) from all sources, and after the deduction of any Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) premiums or levies.
The assessable income of all applicable people in the household is used to calculate the rate of Income Related Rent.
Child Support
From 1 July 2023, most types of Child Support are included as assessable income. For more information see: Child Support included as assessable income from 1 July 2023.
Contributions from additional occupants
Contributions from additional occupants are not included as assessable income. When calculating Income Related Rent, 62% of the total contributions are added to the calculated amount. For more information see: Contributions from additional occupants.
