Change to people in the household

A change to the people in the client's household includes where the client requires another person or household to be added (example person or household join-in the tenancy agreement) or removed from their household unit.

This can also mean a change to the client's housing needs (property requirements) and the indicative rate of Income Related Rent calculated.

New partner joins the household

Where a new partner joins the household, this may change the housing needs (property requirements) and the indicative rate of Income Related Rent calculated. For example, the new partner may have a health condition and require their own room, or they are working and their income must be included.

Where a person leaves the household, the client's circumstances need to be reviewed. There may be no change to the household needs (property requirements) as the person may have been sharing a bedroom.

Where the move impacts the client's priority rating or housing needs (property requirements) the client must be advised of the outcome of the review.

Additional occupant joins or leaves the household

Where an additional occupant joins or leaves the household, this may change the household needs (property requirements). If the client gets accommodation income from the additional occupant, it may also change the indicative Income Related Rent calculated and the client’s priority for social housing.

Accommodation income is deducted from a client's accommodation costs when calculating a client's weekly qualifying accommodation cost.
