Client does not respond to offer from social housing provider
It is expected a client who has been offered a social housing property will accept or decline the property within the specified time period set by the social housing provider.
This ensures people with a serious and persistent housing need can be housed as quickly as possible into a property that meets their housing requirements.
At the time of being offered the property, a client is advised by the housing provider they are expected to tell the housing provider of whether they will accept or decline the property within the specified time (usually 48 hours).
They will also be advised if they do not contact the social housing provider with their decision within the specified timeframe, they will be considered to have not accepted the property offer.
When a client does not respond to the offer from the social housing provider and the social housing provider has been unable to contact the client themselves to confirm their acceptance or decline of the property offer, the social housing provider will advise MSD the client has not accepted the property offer.
If the client does not accept or declines the property, they will be considered to have not accepted the property and MSD is required to assess whether the client had a good and sufficient reason to not accept the property offered.
If you cannot contact the client to confirm their reasons for not accepting the property, the client will be treated as having declined the property offer with no good and sufficient reason.
The client will no longer be eligible for social housing and will be removed from the register.
If contact is made with the client, you need to decide whether their reason for not accepting the property is good and sufficient.
