Course-Related Costs

What is a Course-Related Cost?

The Course-Related Costs (CRC) component of a Student Loan is provided to cover non-compulsory Course-Related Costs such as textbooks, course equipment, non-compulsory fees and levies, and costs such as study related travel, and childcare.

Evidence of Course-Related Costs may be requested. When this evidence is insufficient or when costs claimed are not considered to be course-related, the application may be declined.

How much can be borrowed?

The Course-Related Costs component provides a maximum of $1000 per loan account.

A loan account is usually established for a period of 52 weeks. It can be longer if a student is studying an approved programme that is longer than 52 weeks.

A student is therefore entitled to a maximum of $1000 for each loan account. When the loan account is longer than 52 weeks the student has entitlement to a maximum of $1000.

Overlapping periods of study

When there are overlapping periods of study, make sure the cumulative Course-Related Costs entitlement does not exceed the maximum of $1000 for a loan account. A loan account generally covers a 52 week period (or longer for programmes longer than 52 weeks).

This is a cumulative assessment and therefore you need to consider entitlement over the entire study period.
