Temporary absence
When a client lives in another country and they are absent from that country for less than 26 weeks they can continue to get their New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension.
If a client intends to travel from the country they live in for an extended period of more than 26 weeks to one or more countries they may be able to continue to get their New Zealand Superannuation or Veterans Pension.
Note if the client is in New Zealand, International Services will need to ensure that the client is getting the correct New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension entitlement.
For more information contact International Services.
Mandatory Review while temporarily absent
Clients getting New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension paid under General Portability who have temporarily left the overseas country they live in must still respond to the Mandatory Review before their review date.
Temporary absence from the overseas country they live in (e.g. personal travel) does not pause or defer the Mandatory Review.
Clients must contact MSD before their review date to talk about their situation if they are unable to respond to their review or if they need more time to do it.
