Death of a client in New Zealand
The cancellation of New Zealand benefits and pensions on death follows normal procedures.
International Services receives reports from SWIFTT when a New Zealand benefit or pension is cancelled for clients who were also receiving an Australian pension that has been recorded on SWIFTT.
The executor of the client's estate will need to contact the Australian authorities directly if they require any details of the Australian pension.
International Services will send the following information to the Australian authorities:
- the clients name
- date of death and
- the name and address of the administrator of the estate
Note
- the executor of the estate should be added to the client's record using the SBFTZ screen in SWIFTT so that International Services can advise the Australian authorities
- Terminal Benefit should be paid at the rate of the New Zealand benefit payable as at the date of death

Changes to benefit rate payable
Rates of main benefits being paid as part of terminal benefit are adjusted to reflect changes in the rate payable arising from legislative amendments, such as the $25 net increase in main benefit rates on 1 April 2020 (only). This also includes when benefit rates change in the Annual General Adjustment that occurs on 1 April each year.
