Initial grant of Australian pension

When a client has signed an authority for the release of information and has agreed to have their Australian pension arrears paid to Work and Income, the Australian authorities will:

  • provide details of any grant of an Australian pension to International Services and
  • pay the Australian pension arrears to Work and Income

This will enable International Services to:

  • add the Australian pension details to SWIFTT
  • add the correct direct deduction amount to the New Zealand benefit or pension using the INCMA screen in SWIFTT
  • review the New Zealand benefit or pension from the date of grant of the Australian pension and
  • recover any overpayment of New Zealand benefit or pension paid for the same period as the Australian pension or
  • pay the Australian pension arrears to the client

Information not released

If the client has not signed an authority for the Australian authorities to release information, the client must provide verification of the Australian pension details or the New Zealand benefit or pension will be suspended.

For more information contact International Services.

Adverse action

When MSD matches a client's information with information from Australia, MSD must send a written notice of adverse action to the client.

A notice of adverse action is only required upon receipt of the first information match.
