Applications lodged in Jersey/Guernsey

When a former New Zealand resident is already living in Jersey/Guernsey they are entitled to get a New Zealand benefit or pension covered by the agreement if they:

  • are intending to live in Jersey/Guernsey for more than 26 weeks and
  • have lived in New Zealand for at least one continuous year since the age of 20

Only New Zealand Superannuation, Sole Parent Support for widows and widowers and Veterans Pension can be granted if a client applies in Jersey/ Guernsey. The Agreement does not enable a client to apply for Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury, disability, or totally blind) from Jersey/Guernsey.

Clients must meet all the qualifications for the New Zealand benefit except the requirement to be ordinarily resident in New Zealand.

Clients can use their own and/or their partner's (or former partner's) periods of insurance in Jersey/Guernsey to meet the qualifications for a New Zealand benefit or pension.

International Services is responsible for:

  • assessing entitlement
  • granting and declining applications
  • reviewing entitlement
  • renewing entitlement and
  • cancelling payment

The client will need to complete an Application for Payment Overseas form (WIS7W) and this can be sent to International Services or lodged at the Jersey or Guernsey Social Security authority.

There are special conditions relating to specific benefits and pensions.

The first payment of the New Zealand benefit or pension will be made to the Jersey/Guernsey authority.
