Sole Parent Support for widows and widowers
Under the agreement with Jersey/Guernsey a client may qualify for the New Zealand Sole Parent Support as a widow or widower if they meet all the qualifications.
Under the agreement:
- dependent children born in Jersey/Guernsey (or while parent temporarily absent from Jersey/Guernsey) can be accepted as being born in New Zealand
- the client must have contributed to the Jersey/Guernsey insurance scheme for a minimum of 12 months
- periods of contributions to the insurance scheme in Jersey/Guernsey to be regarded as residence in New Zealand for a client to meet the period of residence qualification for Sole Parent Support as a widow or widower
the client can use their own or their spouse or civil union partner's periods of contributions to the insurance scheme in Jersey/Guernsey as periods of New Zealand residence to meet the residence criteria
Note the client may also be entitled to a Jersey/Guernsey pension, which may be directly deducted from the New Zealand Sole Parent Support as a widow or widower.
