Clients entitled to Maltese pensions
Under the Social Security Act 2018 a client and their partner and dependent (if any) must apply for any pension that they may be entitled to from Malta if they are applying for or receiving a New Zealand benefit or pension. This applies even if the New Zealand benefit is not included in the agreement with Malta.
If the client has Maltese residence they will need to complete an application for a Maltese pension. International Services will contact clients with residence in Malta and ask them to apply for a Maltese benefit or pension.
When the client completes the application it is important that you check the following details before forwarding it to International Services:
- all questions on the form have been answered
- all supporting documentation is attached (these should be sighted, photocopied, and authorised as true copies)
- the application form is signed and dated
If the client refuses to apply for any Maltese pension you should contact International Services.
