New Zealand Superannuation
When a client from Malta meets all the qualifications for New Zealand Superannuation except residence they may qualify under the agreement with Malta.
To help a client meet the residence qualifications for New Zealand Superannuation the agreement with Malta allows:
- periods of contributions in Malta after the age of 20 to be regarded as a period when a person is both resident and present in New Zealand
- only periods of Maltese contributions after the age of 50, can be used to meet the requirement of 5 years of residence in New Zealand and presence in New Zealand after age of 50
The client may also be entitled to a Maltese Pension, which may be directly deducted from New Zealand Superannuation.
Note when New Zealand Superannuation is granted using the agreement with Malta you will need to add the reciprocal indicator by using the NDTA screen in SWIFTT and entering 16 in the entitlement code field.
