Overpayments
When a New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension being paid in Korea is overpaid you will need to advise the client:
- the reason for the overpayment
- the amount of the overpayment and
- their review and appeal rights
The overpayment can be recovered by regular deductions from the client's New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension.
If the client is no longer getting New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension, there is no provision in the agreement for the Korean authorities to recover the overpayment on New Zealand's behalf. There is also no provision in the agreement for New Zealand to recover Korean debts.
Contact clients directly to seek recovery of any overpayment.
Review or appeal
If a client applies for a review or appeals a decision on the establishment of a debt or the rate of recovery, recovery action will be suspended until the outcome of that review or appeal is known.
