Recompliance (13 week non-entitlement period)
A young person can complete certain activities to get a provisional benefit if they are subject to a 13 week non-entitlement period due to having a grade 3 sanction imposed for failing to meet their activity obligations.
If a young person wants to recomply, you must make an approved activity available to them at the earliest opportunity.
There is no waiting period before an approved activity can start after a sanction has been imposed.
The young person must undertake an approved activity for a continuous period of 6 weeks or until the 13 week non-entitlement period ends (whichever is the earlier).
Approved activity examples
Here are some examples that may be a suitable 6 week approved activity for a young person:
- secondary education
- approved training
- work-based learning
- budgeting activity
- parenting activity
- community activities
- part-time work or work experience (where they are not already in part-time work)
- a combination of any of the above
Note this list is an example only, an approved activity (or programme of suitable activities) should be relevant to the activity obligations failure and be fair and reasonable.
For when to grant or increase the benefit, see:
For what to do when a young person cannot recomply due to health condition, see:
