Single clients
Generally the Youth Payment should be suspended when a single client is imprisoned. This will enable payment to be resumed if the client is only in prison for a short period and reapplies for a benefit following their release.
The Youth Payment should be suspended from the day after imprisonment.
Note SWIFTT will automatically cancel the record if it remains suspended for 8 weeks.
Exception - Remand in custody
Although the Youth Payment should generally be stopped for any period during which the client is remanded in custody pending a further court appearance, there is discretion to continue payment of all or part of the benefit.
