Unable to get a suitable and sustainable job locally
To qualify for Relocate for Work Support the client must have been unable to get a suitable and sustainable job in their local area. This means there are:
- no suitable and sustainable job opportunities locally or
- suitable and sustainable job opportunities locally, but the client has been unsuccessful getting one
Note local area means anywhere that is a viable commute from the client's principal place of residence.
Suitable and sustainable jobs available locally
If there are suitable and sustainable jobs available in the client's local area, they must demonstrate they have applied for those jobs and been unsuccessful getting one.
Clients are expected to apply for jobs in all fields relevant to their skills and experience. For example, if a client has experience in both hospitality and retail, they must have been unable to get a suitable and sustainable job in both fields.
Evidence
The client must provide evidence to show they have been unable to get a suitable and sustainable job locally unless MSD already holds this information.
Example 1
Ross is getting Jobseeker Support and has full-time work obligations. He has been applying for suitable and sustainable jobs locally for the last few months but has been unsuccessful. MSD has been supporting Ross with his job search and work readiness.
He has been offered a job in Auckland and needs assistance to move there from Gisborne. He applies for Relocate for Work Support.
MSD is satisfied Ross has been unable to get a suitable and sustainable job locally and grants him Relocate for Work Support.
Example 2
Simon applies for Relocate for Work Support so they can move from Nelson to Wellington for a job offer.
There are a few suitable jobs available in Simon's local area, but they are all fixed-term contracts of less than 12 months, meaning they are not sustainable.
MSD is satisfied Simon has been unable to get a suitable and sustainable job locally and grants them Relocate for Work Support.
Example 3
Sydney applies for Relocate for Work Support as she has a job offer in Christchurch and needs assistance to move from Taupō.
At her appointment, Sydney shows MSD 2 rejection letters and says she hasn't applied for any other jobs. MSD can see there are a range of jobs available in Taupō that are suitable and sustainable for Sydney.
MSD is not satisfied that Sydney has been unable to find a job locally and declines her application for Relocate for Work Support.
Example 4
Edward lives in New Plymouth and has been applying for plenty of local jobs over the last few months but hasn't been successful. There are still jobs available locally, but Edward is not confident they will get one and decides to look for jobs outside New Plymouth.
Edward is offered a job in Auckland and applies for Relocate for Work Support to help with the cost of moving.
Even though there are jobs in New Plymouth, MSD is satisfied Edward has been unable to get a suitable and sustainable job locally. This is because of the number of jobs they have applied for and been unsuccessful getting.
MSD grants Relocate for Work Support to help Edward with their move.
