Private arrangements for Child Support
A 'private arrangement' of Child Support is when carers and paying parents agree between themselves who will pay Child Support and how much will be paid. This is arranged without any involvement from Inland Revenue.
Under a private arrangement, the paying parent pays Child Support directly to the carer.
A carer may get:
- regular cash payments
- payment for specific goods and services
- one-off payments
Carers who get Unsupported Child's Benefit and are required to apply for Child Support cannot have a private arrangement and may need to apply to Inland Revenue for a formula assessment of Child Support.
