Accommodation Supplement: Contents
Outgoings paid by someone else - non-beneficiaries
In some circumstances a person may have their accommodation costs paid for by another person (for example a client's parent).
Where accommodation costs are paid for by someone else, you can still pay the non-beneficiary Accommodation Supplement. In the case of a non-beneficiary you must:
- charge as income, the amount of money that is contributed by the 'other' person against the Accommodation Supplement
- regard the total rent or outgoings as their accommodation costs
Exception
Where a couple have separated and the former partner is contributing to the outgoings of the joint family home, outgoings paid for by the former partner (in some circumstances) may be disregarded as income.
