Change in living arrangements
MSD must review if a client qualifies for Child Disability Allowance whenever a child (that Child Disability Allowance is paid for) moves into:
- the care of Oranga Tamariki
- a state institution
- a residential hostel
- a residential home or
- a specialist school or daycare centre
Where the client no longer qualifies for Child Disability Allowance, payment must stop from the beginning of the pay period following the date living arrangements changed.
Child Disability Allowance is paid 2 weeks in arrears and is paid fortnightly on a Tuesday. The first day of the pay period would be the Wednesday after the Child Disability Allowance payday.
Care and protection concerns
If MSD believes any child has been, or is likely to be harmed (physically, emotionally or sexually), ill-treated, abused, neglected, deprived or MSD has concerns about the wellbeing of the child, the case must be referred to Oranga Tamariki.
