Paid employment

OSCAR subsidy can only be paid during the time that the caregiver is in employment (including travel time and lunch breaks) up to a maximum of:

  • 20 hours a week (outside of school hours) during the school term or
  • 50 hours a week (during the day) throughout the school holidays

If the client's employment is during the night the subsidy will be paid for the time that the client needs to sleep during the day.

Note paid employment includes when the client is still employed, but not at work, such as sick leave, annual leave, or when weather conditions do not permit them to work. It does not cover periods of parental leave.

For more information see:

If the client is in employment but becomes temporarily sick, OSCAR can be paid for a maximum of 12 weeks. For more information see:

Between employment

If the current employment ceases and the parent has further confirmed employment, the subsidy can be paid for a further 10 working days between employment. If the break is for a longer period than 10 working days then the subsidy must be stopped from the date after employment ceased.
