Longer grant periods
Generally, an Emergency Housing Grant will be paid for up to 7 nights at a time. However, MSD has discretion to pay for periods longer than 7 nights in several situations:
- for up to 14 nights at a time, when there is low availability of emergency housing in the region or
- for up to 21 nights at a time, when:
- the client has been granted an emergency housing grant (or grants) for at least 7 nights in total, for the same emergency housing event and
- the client has not received a warning for the Emergency Housing Grant that was immediately granted before their current grant and
- an emergency housing grant of up to 21 nights is appropriate in the client’s circumstances
- for up to 21 nights at a time, during a pandemic, natural disaster, or other emergency event
Even if the qualifications for a longer grant are met, MSD still needs to determine if a longer grant is appropriate in the client's circumstances.
