Emergency Housing: Contents
When a longer grant will not be paid
There are situations where MSD will generally not grant an emergency housing grant for more than 7 nights at a time.
MSD will not grant an emergency housing grant for more than 7 nights at a time when:
- the client has a warning for their most recent previous Emergency Housing Grant
- emergency accommodation is not available to be booked for longer than 7 nights
MSD will generally not grant an emergency housing grant for more than 7 nights at a time when:
- the client or their partner has not meet the expectations and conditions of payment for their previous stay(s) in emergency housing. For example the client of their partner has:
- a history of leaving emergency accommodation without notifying MSD and/or motel
- a history of damaging their emergency or transitional accommodation (whether or not it was the client who did the damage)
- had more than half of their security deposit(s) paid out for their emergency, transitional or contracted emergency housing within the last 6 months
- the client is currently trespassed from MSD or other agencies
- the client is a low trust client
- the costs of the accommodation are high or tend to vary
- MSD needs to move the client to more suitable accommodation once it becomes available e.g. a larger room
- the emergency accommodation provider has a non-refundable policy if the client leaves accommodation early
- the client is staying with a supplier that is not opted-in to the standards, but an opted-in supplier may be available at the next grant
