Residential Support Subsidy : Contents

Main benefit assistance

If a client is currently getting a main benefit you will need to check that the client can still meet the qualifications of that benefit while in residential care.

If not, the client may need to transfer to a more appropriate benefit for the duration of residential care, such as Jobseeker Support on the ground of a health condition, injury or a disability, Supported Living Payment on the grounds of a health condition, injury, disability or total blindness, or Emergency Benefit.

Clients applying for or transferring to Jobseeker Support on the grounds of a health condition, injury or a disability will continue to be required to provide an initial medical certificate as proof of their health condition. No further verification is required while the client remains in care.

Clients applying for or transferring to Supported Living Payment on the grounds of a health condition, injury, disability or total blindness will continue to be required to provide proof of their health condition. No further verification is required while the client remains in care.

If the client is receiving Sole Parent Support, they may be able to continue to receive their benefit.

Extra help

If a client is getting Extra help, it should be stopped from the day the client enters care. Clients may be able to access Extra help only if they have additional ongoing costs in the community.

The Residential Subsidy Unit in Whangarei will ensure any Extra help is reviewed and the appropriate action taken.
