Maximum payment for essential dental treatment
Special Needs Grants for essential dental treatment are non-recoverable and unless exceptional circumstances exist the maximum amount payable is $1,000 in a 52-week period.
Note when a client qualifies for assistance through a health agency, a non-recoverable payment may be made after deducting any health-related subsidy and/or insurance payments from the total cost of treatment.
However, a non-recoverable payment cannot be made to pay the balance of dental treatment where part of the cost of the treatment has been paid by ACC.
No exceptional circumstances
If a client does not have exceptional circumstances to exceed the maximum Special Needs Grant payable for essential dental treatment, they may be eligible for recoverable assistance.
An Advance Payment of Benefit or Recoverable Assistance Payment can be considered for the balance of the essential dental treatment costs.
