Emergency Benefit : Contents
Ability of person requiring care to contribute to the cost of care
Emergency Benefit is paid when a client is in hardship and the individual circumstances justify the payment.
You must consider the ability of the person requiring care to contribute towards the cost of this care, when a client is unable to earn a sufficient livelihood as:
- they are providing care for a person (not their partner) and
- by providing this care the person remains at home
Note this does not apply when a person is caring for their New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension partner.
