Opting out of youth money management

A young partner aged 16 or 17 years with no dependent children who is not subject to a sanction will be able to get their full payment directly, when they have:

  • turned 18 years of age
  • chosen to continue to have youth activity obligations so they can complete their course of study, training or work-based learning and
  • provided written notice to their service provider or Work and Income 'in-house' service that they opt out of youth money management

A young partner aged 16 to 19 years old with no dependent children who are not subject to a sanction will be able to get their full payment direction, when they have:

  • turned 20 years of age
  • chosen to continue to have youth activity obligations so they can complete their course of study, training or work-based learning and
  • provided written notice to their service provider or Work and Income 'in-house' service that they opt out of youth money management

This applies even if the young partner aged 16 or 17 years with no dependent children or 16 to 19 years with dependent children haven't had youth activity obligations long enough to have earned all the incentives available to them.
