Seasonal Assistance during short breaks
Generally, clients requiring assistance during short breaks in seasonal work of less than 4 weeks should be considered for Seasonal Work Assistance.
However, many seasonal workers face short periods of unemployment or hardship where they are not paid by their employer and are not eligible for the Seasonal Work Assistance. This is because:
- they have accessed their full entitlement to Seasonal Work Assistance
- it is a short transition time between jobs (another employer but they are not starting work for a week or two)
- there is a delay with the same employer (ie pruning to picking) or
- because of other reasons such as the weather or machinery breakdowns
If the break in employment is for 4 weeks or more, benefit assistance such as Jobseeker Support should be considered.
Note to be eligible for Emergency Benefit the client must meet the basic eligibility requirements.
