On leave from hospital

Emergency Maintenance Allowance is paid at the full rate for any period of leave from hospital.

When the client has been receiving the hospital rate increase their benefit for any period they are on leave.

The benefit action to take, on the client's re-admission to hospital, will depend on how long they were on leave.

Effect of leave on 13-week count

Any periods of leave from hospital of 28 days or less are to be ignored when deciding the date from which the benefit is to be reduced to the hospital rate.

Calculate the period in hospital from the original admission date.

If the client has been allowed out of hospital for more than 28 days, the calculation of the 13-week period in hospital begins again after the client has been re-admitted.
