Youngest dependent child turns 14 years
When a dependent child turns 14 years old the client is no longer eligible to receive Emergency Maintenance Allowance. This is because Emergency Maintenance Allowance is paid equivalent to Sole Parent Support. To qualify for Emergency Maintenance Allowance equivalent to Sole Parent Support the client must have a dependent child under the age of 14 years.
Date of review
Review the benefit from the date the child turns 14 years old. You should assess the client's entitlement to another main benefit. Where the client does not meet the qualifications for a main benefit, Emergency Benefit may be considered.
